Aoide

Aoïde, vocal performance, 30 min, 23.03.14, Le Générateur, Le Gentilly

Starting from her readings of intersecting texts both ancient and contemporary, notably Homer’s Odyssey and various articles on psychoanalysis and anthropology, Violaine Lochu “reinvents” the song of the sirens. She makes use of existing disparate linguistic fragments; Greek funeral chants, the whistled language of Gomera, whale song, punk screams and baby talk… She explores the hybridisation of fish-woman/bird going hand to hand against her accordion.

The voice and the instrument pushed into their respective trenches express the ambiguity of mythical song, oscillating between disturbing bestiality, seductive hymn and divine melody.
